NBHS Girls Track Team Makes History

The girls track and field team made history this past Thursday and Friday night by scoring 209 points. The most points ever scored in a girls NIC 10 Conference championship meet.

The largest margin of victories since 1999:

  • Belvidere North, 2018, 209-127.5 over Harlem.
  • Freeport, 2001, 183-102 over Belvidere.
  • Freeport, 2000, 172.5-92.5 over Belvidere.
  • Hononegah, 2014, 151-92 over Freeport.
  • Belvidere, 1999, 154-98 over Hononegah.
  • Hononegah, 2005, 165-113.5 over Boylan.

Congratulations to the girls track team for winning conference last Friday for a second year in a row. The blue thunder made history twice by scoring 209 points and winning 14 out of 18 events, two things that have never been done in the history of the NIC 10 conference. The 14 event winners were Grace Bundschuh, 100 and 200 meter dash. Sabrina Elder won the 400 meter dash, Kayla Mcguire defeated all in the 800. Madison Diercks dominated in the 1600 meter run. Gianna Sagona left no doubt with her first conference championship in the 3200 meter run. She also broke the school record. Brooke Messenger finished first in the high jump with a school and conference tying record of 5 foot 6 inches. Taylor Ferguson worked hard to get the win in Pole Vault. Kate Oteng Bediako took home the gold in the long and triple jump. And finally all four relays finished first. The relays consisted of Grace Bundschuh, Ayanna Wallace Giovanna Lazzerini, Kate Oteng Bediako, Alexis Addotta, Sabrina Elder, Haley Dahl, Kayla McGuire, Brooke Messenger, Madison Diercks and Sydnie Elder. This is one of the best girls track to team to ever come out of the NIC 10 conference. Coach Hunter along with is entire coaching staff couldn’t be more proud. Roll thunder!!
